Village Organisations

The Afternoon Club

This club has been running for over thirty years and is available for anyone in the area over the age of sixty. Two of the ladies who started it still live locally – one of whom, at nearly one hundred years old, still attends.

We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 2pm and start with a game (sometimes played in groups). These include Hoy, Beetle Drive, E.I.E.I.O (which is an animal game) and other short quizzes devised by club members.   When this is finished we have tea/coffee and biscuits. While we have our refreshments a draw is made for prizes which are donated by club members each week. For the last 35-40 minutes we have a bingo session which finishes just before we close at 4pm.

Every year (usually in March) we provide a meal fairly locally to all members (paid for by the club), although a coach fare still applies.

During the Spring/Summer seasons we organise coach trips to destinations which are usually not more than an hour or so from Kelsale.  The cost of each trip is £8 per seat to cover the cost of coach hire.  We always go to places where members can get a cooked meal if they wish, or just a snack.

Age UK Suffolk holds Forget-Me-Not‘Time out’

This is a group working around the county to offer a social time to those with dementia, or memory problems, and their carers. The Forget-Me-Not ‘Time out’ in Saxmundham is held at the Kelsale Village Hall and is called Relax and Reminiscence (‘R&R’). The event is an open afternoon to relax, socialise and reminisce about past memories which may also include Music.

The club is held every third Friday of the month and the starting time is 2pm and finishes at 4pm. The cost is £2.00 which goes towards the tea and cake that is provided.

Crafty Ladies

This is a group of ladies with varying skills & interests which meets on alternate Mondays in the Village Hall Committee room from 2:30pm till 4:30pm.  The thing we have in common is a desire to create… knitting/sewing/embroidery/card making/tapestry/crochet/patchwork/quilting/anything goes…as long as it is not messy!!!! (so sorry…no -ainting or pottery).

We often work on our own individual items but have also all worked together to produce a patchwork quilt which was auctioned for the Village Hall funds & “fiddle aprons” for residents of Leiston Abbey Old People’s home with dementia, warm hats for Felixstowe seamen, dresses and shorts for children in Africa, vests for babies in Africa and hats and cuddle triangles for premature babies in Ipswich hospital.

Sessions are £3.00 each or £20.00 for a term of 8 sessions.  If you are interested in coming along, ring Pam on 01728 603995 for details.

Yoga takes place in the Village Hall every Wednesday morning from 9:00 – 10:30am
